چکیده

Addition of trace elements (intended or as impurities) in steel or alloys can completely change the properties of materials; thus, there is a necessity to have reliable analytical techniques to determine major and trace components in this type of material. Also, to solving problems with quality control/quality assurance (QC/QA) in this subject, appropriate certified reference materials should be available in the wide range. Several methods have been proposed for quantitative analysis of steel samples: inductively coupled plasma (ICP-OES) [1, 4], inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) [5, 8], atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS) [11], X-ray fluorescence (XRF) [1, 6], and neutron activation analysis (NAA) [1, 2, 7, 10]. As a rule, all of these techniques possess some limitation like required sample dissolution or appropriate sample mass. These requirements like preliminary separation get worse the accuracy. For accuracy reason, it is advisable to apply more than one method for analysis. INAA is one of the preferred methods because it provides information on a large number of elements simultaneously. Another important feature of INAA is that it is free from the problems connected with digestion of difficult matrices and potential contamination of a sample from reagents. Moreover, by changing irradiation and cooling parameters as well as measurement time, the effect of the interfering radionuclides on the results of analysis of particular elements can Instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA) for steel analysis and certification Halina Polkowska-Motrenko, Ewelina Chajduk, Bożena Danko

Instrumental Neutron Activation Analysis of Trace Elements in Some Food Spices Consumed In Tehran, Iran

Introduction There is a growing interest in determining the concentration of various elements in food spices. In the present study, the instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA) was employed to measure the trace elements in 11 commonly food spices consumed in Tehran, Iran. Materials and Methods The levels of K, Mn, Na, Cl, V, Br, Al, and As were determined and their effects on human healt...

Instrumental neutron activation analysis of air suspended particles in Rasht city, Iran

Background: In addition to gas pollutants, many chemicals and air pollutants are in the form of particulate matter. Particulate matter consists of a complex mixture of variable sized particles and physicochemical composition. These particles mainly contain minerals including Fe, Al, Ca, K, Cu, Ti, Mn, Ni, V and their size, chemical composition and concentration are important to assess ...

Salvinia auriculata: aquatic bioindicator studied by instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA).

Through instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA) the elemental chemical composition of Salvinia auriculata and Ouro Preto city public water was determined. Elements Ce, Th, Cr, Hf, Sb, Sc, Rb, Fe, Zn, Co, Au, La and Br were quantified. High chromium concentration was determined in this plant. But, chromium was determined only in low concentrations in the water. The results indicate the g...

Quality assessment of INAA data for small-sized environmental reference samples.

Instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA) was applied for the accurate and precise determination of minor and trace elements in small-sized aliquants (1 to 2 mg) of two certified reference materials (CRM), NIES No. 8 and NIST 1632c. Four laboratories used either comparative- or k0-INAA, or both, and repeated the analysis more than ten times for each CRM. Based on z-scores and zeta scores ...
